New House, Friston, Suffolk
A new house in the countryside built beneath a barn roof, using East Suffolk Councils' cluster policy. The house will be built with breathable, carbon positive hemp blocks using no plastic insulation or membranes.

The East Suffolk Council Design and Conservation Officer wrote; “The overall result would be respectful of its setting, street scene and village, neither striving for effect nor competing for attention with the landmark building adjacent. In this way, the design should take its place comfortably in the village.”

Church Walk, Aldeburgh
A new three bedroom house in the Aldeburgh Conservation Area beside two recently listed modernist houses was granted permission in 2025. The form was negotiated in detail with the Design and Conservation Officer at East Suffolk Council. They noted, “the very high quality and honest visualisations that are included in the pre-application - which are very welcome to have and for which the agent and applicant should be commended.”

The Design and Conservation report, that supported the permission summed up the design strategy;
"The proposed design manages to blend without being bland, with the ground floor providing an opportunity for overt architectural interest and the articulation of the rooms with the garden. This is achieved successfully and the overall design provides a satisfying coherence. While the addition of a dwelling here will represent a change to the partly open character surrounding the adjacent listed buildings, this will not be an adverse one due to the scale of the upper floor and roof, and the restrained design which imparts a background quality to the design."

Fishers Gin Distillery, Aldeburgh
We converted an unusual 1970s house on Aldeburgh beachfront to a gin distillery and sales lounge, that is focussed on the North Sea.

High Street, Aldeburgh
A proposal to return an office to residential use with a new roof level within a broad dormer that has views of the sea.

The Suffolk, Aldeburgh
A challenging project to restore a 300-year-old listed inn that was in need of careful renewal, into a hotel and restaurant. I worked closely with my client, George Pell, to reconfigure the building so that every change (including a new staircase and terrace and lift) felt as though they had always been there. I undertook all of the conservation work on the project.
The soft furnishings and colour schemes were designed by Kate Fulford.

Whisstocks, Woodbridge
I worked with Paul Weston to develop this important mixed use building on the River Deben. The planning officers’ report said that, "the design would enhance the setting of the listed buildings by complementing and respecting their intrinsic form and appearance (without slavishly copying them)“.

Crown Maltings, Woodbridge
A redevelopment in a listed Maltings building and a complementary new building in the heart of the Woodbridge Conservation Area.

The White Lion, Aldeburgh
The refurbishment of a listed hotel with six new rooms overlooking a new garden. The Aldeburgh Society said that; “...the proposals represent fairly major and radical works to an important Grade II Listed Building. However the scheme is comprehensive, well and expertly documented, and carefully conceived...”

The Dolphin Inn, Thorpeness
A small hotel in a sensitive part of Thorpeness. We will return the facade to the original shopfronts of 1915 and make a small number of beachy new hotel rooms.
